Introduction to PN junction diode. Diffused PN Junction Diodes; Metal Semiconductor Diodes. This forward-bias voltage drop exhibited by the diode is due to the action of the depletion region formed by the P-N junction under the influence of an applied voltage. The total recovery time for a P-N Junction diode can be substantially reduced by introducing efficient recombination centers, such as Au and Si, to the bulk material. Such a junction is said to be forward biased. These solar cells function as a large conductor and then utilize a large area called p-n junction diode. The recombination at the junction allows a battery current to flow through the PN junction diode. Let us learn about pn junction diode. Thus, currents of N-type and P-type majority carriers flow toward the junction. 1(a) shows the connection of forward biasing of a p-n junction. A semiconductor diode is simply a P-N junction with connecting leads or terminals on its two sides. To limit the current, practically a current limiting resistor is connected in series with the p-n junction diode. As we know metals are classified into 3 types they are : conductors, insulators and semiconductors. A Diode is a unidirectional device permitting the easy current flow in one direction but resisting the flow in opposite direction. Conductors allow the flow of electrons where as the insulators doesn't allow the flow.
